Premium IoT for the energy industry: Digimondo and items deepen their cooperation

The cooperation between Digimondo GmbH and items GmbH & Co. KG supports municipal utilities in implementing their IoT strategy and offers first-hand solutions.

Münster/Hamburg, June 2, 2022 - Being able to receive, bundle and analyze data from a wide range of applications is becoming increasingly important for municipal utilities in order to meet current and future requirements in the energy industry. When it comes to digitization, the expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) is increasingly coming into focus. Providing municipal utilities with the best possible support in implementing their IoT strategy and offering solutions from a single source is the goal of the cooperation between Digimondo GmbH and items GmbH & Co. KG. Due to the dynamic market development, the partners have now agreed to intensify and expand the successful cooperation. In essence, the aim is to integrate the Hamburg-based company's IoT platform niota and items' specific modules for the energy industry even more deeply with one another and, based on this, to develop new, beneficial applications for energy service providers and network operators. The partners complement each other perfectly: Digimondo has recently developed niota into a pioneering IoT meta-platform and brings practical experience from over 80 IoT projects in the utility industry. The IT service provider items has extensive expertise as a technical implementation partner, operator and developer of its own modules and solutions for the EVU industry.

"With IoT, the digital image of the utility network is increasingly becoming a 1:1 image of the physical conditions," says Ludger Hemker, Managing Director of items GmbH & Co. KG. "The communicating networking of various objects and sensors, as well as the use of the resulting data, is the prerequisite for meeting climate targets and efficient energy generation." Digimondo Managing Director Christopher Rath adds, "Only if municipal utilities ensure the digitalization of their infrastructure can they meet the legal requirements and achieve the necessary efficiency improvements. Our cooperation creates the opportunity to be an even stronger partner for our customers together and provide them with full support."

Specifically, the deepened collaboration is about jointly creating IoT platform solutions and applications where there are no more boundaries. In other words, data can be exchanged without restrictions, regardless of the transmission technology (e.g. LoRaWAN, mobile communications, NB-IoT, 450 MHz) and the target systems (e.g. SAP, network control center, energy data management). The solution thus enables data to be received and evaluated from a wide variety of sources. The software thus noticeably simplifies the implementation of IoT projects and also allows the received data to be integrated into existing IT systems such as SAP. The possibility of seamlessly connecting a LoRaWAN network or a NB-IoT makes niota particularly interesting for the energy industry.

Numerous added values for the energy industry

Together, items and Digimondo can thus offer municipal utilities a solution that is optimally tailored to their needs from a single source. When using this solution, customers benefit not only from the fulfillment of minimum legal requirements. They can also profitably use the resulting data streams from the remote reading of their meters, for example, to make the operation of power plants more efficient, which items has already successfully implemented for some district heating operators to improve heat generation forecasts. Another typical example: enercity AG in Hanover is already working with the IoT ERP bridge developed jointly by items and Digimondo. Among other things, this is used there to transfer measured values from tenant electricity projects from the IoT platform directly to the SAP billing system."

"We have been working closely with items for a long time," says Christopher Rath. Deepening this now and establishing it in a joint cooperation would create many advantages, also for the more than 80 customers already acquired. Ludger Hemker shares the optimism: "Within the framework of our partnership, we want to use synergies to offer scalable, modularly expandable solutions and to support municipal utilities in expanding their own IoT world. As a result, they will quickly benefit from the ease of use of their data and further drive the digitization of the energy industry as a whole."

About Digimondo GmbH

Digimondo GmbH was founded in 2016 by software experts with the vision of using the Internet of Things (IoT) to make the world more efficient, sustainable and better. The Digimondo team develops IoT software systems and enables its customers to implement their own IoT solutions independently. A total of more than 80 customers, including over 60 network operators in Germany and international customers from industry and facility management, use the IoT software solutions. As an IoT pioneer in Germany, the Digimondo team has several years of experience in the implementation of IoT projects. The self-developed IoT platform is the key to the successful implementation of proof-of-concepts through projects of all scaling levels to global roll-out. By implementing a specially developed Digital Twin, Digimondo customers are enabled to leverage the full potential of IoT data and information from other sources.
