enercity acquires a 25.1 percent stake in digimondo GmbH The company specializes in software solutions in the IoT (Internet of Things) sector and is thus a strategically important partner for the energy service provider enercity. The two companies are united by a single vision: to make the Internet of Things available to all people and thus contribute to more climate protection and a higher quality of life in the Smart City.  Whether in trading, sales or the product world: the future of the energy industry is digital. By joining digimondo GmbH, based in Hamburg, the energy service provider enercity is bringing additional expertise for IoT solutions on board. digimondo is a leading provider of IoT software solutions. Among digimondo's customers are companies from the energy sector, industry and building management. digimondo has already implemented smart sity solutions in over 40 German cities.

Digital twin provides new services for customers

"Whether energy, mobility or housing: With digimondo we will expand the infrastructure for the Smart City. We are making offers from which people benefit in their everyday lives - through more comfort, more climate protection and more time for the analog things in life," says enercity director Dr. Susanna Zapreva. Christopher Rath, CEO of digimondo, also sees great potential in the strategic partnership. "We are supplying the software for the realization of the connected city. With our new development, the first branch and technology independent digital twin for the Internet of Things, any objects, buildings or even an entire city can be digitally mapped. This makes it possible to assign any real data to digital objects and combine them as needed. Processes are thus intelligently automated - for example, a street in the Smart City can independently regulate traffic based on air pollution and traffic flows," explains Rath.
Since 2017 digimondo is a shareholding of the Magdeburg-based energy market service provider regiocom SE. "The interest in IoT solutions has increased massively. We are now going to develop this growing market in a strong alliance with enercity", says regiocom founder Dr. Sebastian Kerz. Regiocom and enercity have enjoyed a trustful partnership for more than ten years.

A smart city emerges from many networked individual solutions

With smart, i.e. digitally networked applications, companies, cities and municipalities are making people's lives more sustainable, more comfortable, safer and thus more worth living. The key are IoT solutions that connect machines, devices and people. Objects are equipped with sensors that can then communicate with each other via software and enable new services. The result will be "digitized objects" such as the e-charging station that redirects the driver when it is occupied.

In all applications, sustainability plays a major role for enercity: A representative survey conducted by enercity had shown that climate protection is the number one priority for the majority of the population when it comes to the smart city. With its experience in the field of IoT and digimondo's IoT software, enercity will be able to offer smart city solutions to other companies, municipal institutions or other interested clients in the future.
